Project Description

Dr. Judith Hermanson Ogilvie 65

Chair of the Board of Trustees (2008–14)

Dr. Judith Hermanson Ogilvie ’65 is a member of AUP’s Founding Classes; she graduated as part of the University’s second-ever entering class, before leading an influential career in public service and international development spanning many decades. In 1999, she joined the University’s Board of Trustees, before becoming, in 2008, the first woman and first alumna to be elected Board Chair.

During her tenure, she established governance practices which remain in place today, stewarding the University through the aftermath of a proposed merger and relocation and ultimately taking the bold decision to remain in the quartier of our founding, the 7th arrondissement, thereby ensuring that AUP maintained strong ties to Paris and kept its distinctive global character.

In 2008, Ogilvie chaired the community-wide Presidential Search Committee that led to the appointment of President Celeste M. Schenck, who served as AUP President for 13 years and who will retire in 2022. Ogilvie embodies the finest qualities of the AUP global explorer, navigating multiple cultural environments with wit, imagination, respect for cultural difference and joie de vivre.
